Milton R. Johnson
Executive Producer and writer
Mr. J was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he grew up influenced by the many social and political nuances that defined the industrial American heartland during a time marked by the impact of the Vietnam War, the fight for freedom of expression, growing resentment toward the status quo, and the emergence of the full-fledged civil rights movement.
Now residing in Houston, Mr. J began exploring writing after the death of his mother in 1999. Seeking solace and inspiration, he traveled to Greece to spend time with a family member, using the opportunity to reflect and expand his creative vision. Upon returning to Houston in 2000, he realized that writing had always been his true passion, and in the years that followed, he dedicated himself to developing several writing projects.
In 2006, Mr. J produced his first play in Houston, and most recently, this past summer, while producing the stage show Oh My God, he experienced a true “Oh My God” moment. While driving, he suffered a heart attack and swerved into the nearest hospital. As he began to collapse, medical staff rushed to cut away his clothes and save his life — later telling him that had he arrived even moments later, he would have died.
Having come full circle from the blue-collar world of the industrial Midwest to this point
in his life, MR.J is poised to become a key and important storyteller of his Americana
